New Year, New You through Richard Branson: A book review

Richard Branson’s “Screw It, Let’s Do It” is a great, quick read. I recommend it as a starter to 2020, because it truly does pump you up and get you going with some easy life lessons. You can easily implement them into your own life, hassle free.
As someone who dislikes lying around and wasting time, this book was a point of call to keep on striving – in any endeavor – and to JUST DO IT.
Here are my 12 favorite quotes (some paraphrased):
- Have fun at work and the money will follow.
- What is going on NOW is just as important as what you’re planning for the FUTURE. Live in the MOMENT and don’t dwell on the PAST.
- Face problems HEAD ON (Richard recounts an early confrontation between him and one of his best mates. He had to tell this friend to leave the company for, among other reasons, the sake of their relationship. Later down the line, both parties agreed that this was the correct decision).
- Family first. As Branson says, “Without my friends and family, I would be lost”.
- Money is for making things HAPPEN.
- Your REPUTATION is everything.
- Be FAIR in all your dealings. Don’t CHEAT, but aim to WIN.
- We need to LOSE BAD HABITS or lazy ways that hold us back and clutter our minds.
- UST DO IT. Challenge yourself. Have fun. Achieve it.
- Have an open mind, go to a place where you can clear your mind. Your best ideas can come about without pen and paper, just thinking in your brain. (Again Richard highlights how some of his best ideas weren’t conceived behind a desk, wearing a fancy suit, but rather, relaxing with a cup of coffee. Such an environment is conducive for clear-thinking).
- Have FAITH in yourself.
- Keep a notebook.
In this book, which is just 100 pages, many other ideas that can spark a trigger in your life to keep pushing in a certain arena can be found. Perhaps Branson’s words will provide the apt, quirky slogan to kick something into place in your mind, and help make 2020 a true New Year, New You.
Have a happy New Year, and as we usher in a new decade, let’s make the effort for you and I to connect in 2020!
