The saying that “everything is BIGGER in America” is quite an accurate statement – now that I have seen it firsthand. We’ve all watched the movies which show the supersized facets of the States. And in many respects (but not all) the ‘stereotype’ is true!

I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to live and work in California for two and a half months at Squaw Valley Ski resort (which hosted the 1960 Winter Olympics). I’m one month in, and myself along with some friends, have settled in warmly. Something that has stood out for us though, is the sheer size of ordinary things in America. It is absolutely mind-blowing.

Everything is BIGGER!

America has cars that will make Afrikaaners jealous!

Grocery stores that will make greedy people salivate!

Roads that will make cyclists safe!

Parking spots that give bad drivers hope!

And so much more!

Bukkies (pickup trucks) are the size of busses. You can get lost in a grocery store. If you think you are walking in the middle of the road, you are probably still on the pavement. And it takes half an hour to walk around a parking spot.

Intrigued? You and I can prove their need to make everything bigger. Simply, list a basic item that you think that America has supersized and I will find it for you!
